Oly: Foster s bans global warming gases
Greenpeace has applauded a decision by brewing group Foster's to stop buying equipment
which uses hydrofluorocarbon greenhouse gases.
The move follows a decision by Coca Cola last month to phase out HFCs in its refrigeration
by the Athens Olympics in 2004.
Greenpeace Olympics campaigner RUPERT POSNER says today's announcement by the brewing
giant is yet another legacy of the Sydney 2000 Games.
Mr POSNER says the Olympics sponsor has accepted it needs to adopt environmentally
friendly policies and practices.
But he says Greenpeace is disappointed Foster's will still use 200 HFC coolers at the
Sydney Olympics site at Homebush.
Mr POSNER says natural refrigeration systems called Greenfreeze are commercially available
and can be used instead of HFCs.
He says Greenpeace will now be targeting other Olympic sponsors and partners to follow
Foster's lead.
