NSW: Caltex maintenance contractors back at work
Contract maintenance workers at one of Australia's largest oil refineries have returnedto the job after safety concerns were allayed overnight.
The 125 contract maintenance workers at the Caltex refinery in Kurnell, in Sydney'ssouth, have resume work, despite the site being cleared as safe by WorkCover.
For three days, the workers had been threatening to strike over safety issues, rosteringarrangements and superannuation contributions.
Australian Manufacturing Workers Union says the union has conducted its own safetyaudit this morning, and says workers have opted to return to work.
The temporary contractors are working on the refinery's diesel and sulphur plants, which have been shut down for routine maintenance.
Unions refused to work on the plants yesterday, claiming there was a gas leak.
WorkCover cleared the site last night of any safety problems.
