Natural remedies face hurdles at drug chains.

NEW YORK - The rush to bring homeopathic and herbal remedies to the mass market has created a logjam of products vying for shelf space at chain drug stores. While there is widespread agreement that the category is a logical addition to the trade class, a number of challenges remain at both the retailer and supplier levels.

Even chain drug executives who are enthusiastic about homeopathy and herbal remedies say they can stock only a small portion of the hundreds of products available. They also note that there are lingering questions about whether individual SKUs should be integrated into such specific sections as cough/cold or merchandised together in a separate department.
