NSW: Fire destroys church in South Turramurra

SYDNEY, April 18 AAP - A teenager has been arrested after a fire destroyed a church
in Sydney's north.

Police and the fire brigade were called to the church on the corner of Vernon Road
and Chisholm Street, South Turramurra, just after 1am (AEST) on Saturday morning.

They found the building well alight, with witnesses telling police they saw a number
of people leaving the vicinity of the church before the fire.

After searching the area a 17-year-old youth was found in a nearby garden by officers
from the dog squad.

He was arrested and taken to Hornsby Police Station for questioning.

Investigations into the blaze are continuing.
